Ben wrote "Currently I have the engine on re-assy after an engine failure at 150 ft on takeoff. Got her into a
stony cockies [farmers] paddock and finished with a controlled ground loop to avoid the fence at the end.
The cause of the engine failure was a valve snapped at the bottom groove on the No 1 inlet valve. The valve
dropped into the cyl and made a bit of a mess. It has involved a total engine rebuild. At present I'm
remachining the heads to take 2 sparkplugs and opening the bore of the spigot recess to take the
larger cylinders. Based in Masterton with Wayne Raynor but will eventually live at Paraparaumu." (11 Dec 2009)
